WHAT IS THE ADVENTURER'S GUILD?
This forum operates with a quest-centric roleplaying system that was adopted from the Novel Updates Forum. The game is based on a RPG-like premise that all characters are part of an "Adventurer's Guild" that issues quests for its members.
STEP 1: REGISTRATION
First, go to the Registration Board and create a character. Be sure to check out the registration guidelines thread. Please wait for your character to be accepted by another member before beginning to play.
STEP 2: QUEST BOARD
Next, go to the Quest Board and pick a quest that looks interesting to you. All characters start at Level 1 on Myrtle Island after traveling through the Reflecting Pool, so be sure to pick quests that fit your character's requirements.
You can also post Custom Quests on the Quest Board. Custom Quests are player-designed quests that anyone can create, as long as they are approved by one other member.
STEP 3: RECEPTION DESK
Once you have picked a quest, go to the Reception Desk and post a Quest Report. A Quest Report is a narrative of how your character completed the quest, and you can write it in any style that you wish.
After you have posted a Quest Report, wait for another player to evaluate your quest report.
Anyone can evaluate Quest Reports, but you can't evaluate your own! The evaluator gets to decide if the the Quest Report fulfilled all the stated objectives of the quest, and if the narrative seems plausible. Depending on their grading, either full, partial, or no rewards can be given.
LEVELING UP
As characters complete quests, they will gain EXP.
Characters will gain levels, which means that you can make them stronger. Periodically, characters need to pass Rank Exams at certain milestones before they can progress to the next level.
EXP does not reset to zero after each level up.
Rank Level EXP Unranked 1 0 2 200 3 600 4 1200 Rank E 5 2000 6 3000 7 4200 8 5600 9 7200 Rank D 10 9000
Please see the Level Appendix for an extended table. The level formula is: 100 * (LVL^2 - LVL)
MONEY
Money is also a common reward for quests. The currency on Myrtle Island is Shells ($), although different regions may have different currencies.
The daily wage for the poorest individuals on Myrtle Island is approximately 10$ — or the cost of living.
Deducting 10$ from your character's inventory every day is optional. The game runs in liquid time, meaning that time may progress faster for some players than for others. Additionally, it is okay to pretend that your character worked, did quests, or trained while you were offline, but you should not give yourself money or EXP during time skips.
We generally have an extremely relaxed approach towards money, and players are encouraged to deduct money whenever they can think of an IC reason for it (e.g. buying groceries, shopping).
