APPEARANCE:
Koi has the appearance of a human female, but in reality it is all an illusion held together by powerful magic. Her true form is that of a koi fish, which is a type of Japanese carp.
Her human appearance is pale-skinned with black hair and flashes of red highlights. If you look carefully, parts of her skin are fish scales, but it is barely visible without close scrutiny. She has a number of rose tattoos on her body, but they never stay in the same location. Her typical attire is reminiscent of Taisho-era Japan, although she wears male traditional dress for mobility.
For those sensitive to magic, Koi has a pungent odor/aura of densely inscrutable magic. Her entire physical form is made out of magic, and she would cease to exist without the spells that bind her in this form.
PERSONALITY:
Having lived for over seventy years, Koi has experienced a lot. However, she remains deficient in many aspects of human personality since she was never raised as an ordinary human. In fact, she was originally bound as a familiar to a powerful shinto priest who exorcised demons. Her primary role involved killing spirts/demons at her summoner's command. Sometimes, she was also ordered to kill benign and innocent spirits.
While her violent occupation has distorted her sense of normalcy, Koi still has complicated feelings about herself. For instance, she is conscious of the fact that she isn't truly human — and feels alienated because of that fact. Koi wishes she could have been born to an ordinary human family, but she considers that an impossible and frivolous fantasy.
HISTORY:
Once upon a time, more than seventy years ago, Koi was a fish in a small pond. One day, a young priest was staring at a pond and took a liking to the fish, so he transformed it into a human and made it his familiar. For many decades, Koi fought demons and spirits under the orders of her summoner. However, eventually he grew old and died.
Since Koi's entire existence depended on the priest's magic, she thought she would fade away. However, she decayed much slower than she expected, and spent five years wandering the world aimlessly while gradually getting weaker. Koi was swimming in a pond one day when she randomly was sucked into a whirlpool.
Currently, Koi continues to decay and she steadily leaks magical energy. Her original abilities are suppressed as a side effect of the Reflecting Pool which scrambled the spells that make up her body.
ABILITIES:
Water Manipulation. Able to subtly manipulate water that she is in contact with. This allows her to swim quickly or even walk on water. However, currently she is unable to manipulate a large quantity of water, create water, extract water from air, nor change its properties. While Koi can carry a ball of water in her hands, as soon as she throws it, it would lose shape and fall apart into a puddle.
Expired Shikigami (passive debuff). Koi has a finite amount of magic inside her. Since the connection with her summoner has been severed, she is steadily bleeding magic with no way to recover it. While she still has a hefty pool of magic, any magic that Koi performs will drain her reservoir and effectively shorten her lifespan.
