Money... was part of the struggle of being human.
Humans ate food and they slept, therefore they used money.
Since Koi was living as a human, that also meant she needed money. She needed money to wash her clothes, find a place to sleep... money was troublesome. Technically, as a familiar spirit, Koi didn't need many of these things. She didn't have to eat human food, for instance. However, she still ended up covered in dirt after a day of running around the village whacking snails. Since she was living with humans, Koi tried her hardest to at least... appear... human.
Which meant washing properly and pretending to drink water and food.
Did anyone mention that people ate lots of fish around here???
What was Koi supposed to eat anyways? A fish eating fish?! D:
Koi simply closed her eyes and pretended not to be bothered whenever she swallowed a piece of grilled mackerel. This didn't count as cannibalism right? Koi was a koi fish -- and so far she hadn't encountered any of those around here.
In either case, all of those things took money.
The fishgirl looked at the quest board for a quest that could give her money. It seemed like there as a cleaning quest that seemed doable?
By the way, the Abandoned Cove was a creepy place.
It was fairly dimly lit when Koi went there, and there were long shadows all around the cove. The environment was perfect for ruffians and her outlaws to hide in the secluded darkness. She was slightly paranoid that someone would jump out at any moment, but nothing particularly interested happened.
She found the merman who was in charge of the quest and got haphazardly waved to the side to pick up random trash. It seemed that the gangsters didn't really care for Koi's presence, and they mostly treated her as an invisible fly on the wall.
There was one odd thing, however.
When Koi was cleaning near a stack of crates, there was a bunch of muffled cries, faint sobbing, and suspicious scratching noises coming from inside the crates... it was super creepy. And dubious.
What in the world was inside those crates?
Koi wasn't the type of individual to involve herself needlessly. She wasn't a hero, after all. No one had ever told her to do something about it, so Koi did nothing.
At the end of the day, she went back to Sharkbait to receive her payment and hurriedly made her way back to Myrtle Village.
