deltra of gangnam style
Nyx was standing in front of a handful elderly mermaids who were sitting on some wooden stools twining fiber, laughing and telling themselves the funniest stories. And he was about to take part in that very same event though not for the same reason. Seeing that his current state was more than pathetic, he had to find ways to improve himself not only mentally but physically as well. Now, some may ask how that could help him in any form or shape?
It was rather easy to answer. The ancient art of creating robes required dexterity. One had to be skillful to make actually sturdy ropes, able to handle heavy objects without tearing apart. Something he had in the past. And to regain that he was willing to endure an afternoon with these old ladies no matter how gruesome it would turn out to be. And this time he forbid Nier to make his appearance. He wanted to focus on the task before him and not get sidetracked by his annoying chatter.
He took a few steps forward so that the group noticed him. They lifted their heads and smiled at him, waving with their hands making sure he'd come closer. One of the mermaids greeted him with a voice that had a pretty flow even though it was branded by the past. He nodded which was basically his answer. They knew why he was here, which is why the lady in front of him showed him his seat.
While she did that she observed him a bit with a slightly sinnister grin. Nothing big or truely evil, but he would soon find out, why she seemed so.... interested in him. He sat down and wanted to start but was interrupted by the very same person that was guiding him just a few seconds ago. She asked him if he knew how to make ropes, which made him realize that no, in fact, he did not know. That elderly introduced herself as Jil.
She showed him the basics which helped him a lot. That, and analyzing the other women who were doing their work quite fast. This kind of pace was out of his league for now but he tried to make the best out of his abilities. Soon he had his first rope done, still a bit loose, maybe usable for rope skipping. He was not used to not doing a good job, which is why he tried again and again.
While he was fully focused on his work, Jil started talking. He seemed to remind her of her first love. A small frail man she saw out of the ocean. He was a sailor, human too and had black hair. It was love at first sight. They met each other regularly even thinking about marriage not knowing if that was even possible. But then he stopped coming, leaving her alone with a broken heart.
The first thought that was crossing Nyxs' mind was that the man perhaps was killed. Erased from this world without anyone noticing. But then she continued the story. She heared that said person had been in prison for around ten years because he stole treasure that he wanted to buy them some wedding rings. After his time in that cruel place, he immediately went over to the mermaid, explaining his situation.
She was so glad that he had not abandoned her and they lived happily ever after. The boy listened only half-heartedly but was able to answer with a short "Mhm" before he finished his last rope. The best one so far! It was rather durable, still not nearly as good as the others, but quite decent. He showed promise at least. A few more tries and he'd be able to contribute to this kind of business...if he wanted.
He bowed before Jil, as a slight thanks for teaching him this fascinating art.

Summary: Nyx met the elderly mermaids, got instructed by Jil and started making ropes. The first couple ones were not that great, but still usable. While he continued his work he listened to the love story of his teacher. The last rope he made was quite decent and he showed promise for this kind of work.
