So I saw something like this on one of the fairy tale rp sites, and I was wondering what people thought of it?
Basically, reputation would be a different kind of reward. You could get "Fame" from finishing certain quests or "Infamy" for completing certain other ones. These would be a numerical value.
These could tie into quest prerequisites, like you need "X Infamy" in order to do a certain quest.

What would be the in-universe explanation for different regions' reputation? Will we have many forms of reputation or one-to-encompass-all?

I've once read about something called 'Legend Lvl'. It's a point-system that would increase every time the person did some extraordinary feats (surviving ancient ruins, killing legendary-ranked monsters, doing some other mythical feats). The more legend point one had, the more extraordinary their aura became. This aura helped with gaining respect and fame. Maybe something like this, but more grounded and easier to gain?

That's an interesting idea, for sure. Although I was originally thinking that something like "karma" would be useful for separating good characters and evil characters.
For instance, maybe you wouldn't want an evil character to take the "Teach Our Children" quest, and being "good" should be a prerequisite to the quest.
Alternatively, a goody-two-shoes might not be allowed to see an evil quest that involves stealing(?) something? idk?

but how will this translate to In-setting explanation? Also I can see some characters come into conflict already xD

That is exactly what I was thinking about as well. As Nyx for example is not a good guy at all, I've tried to do only the quests that seemed reasonable for him though there are certainly some quests that he would not do at all.
