So I've been browsing a handful of places, and a recurring theme that I've noticed is that many people seem to view a "plot-less" roleplay as a negative thing.
I was wondering what others thought? Should there be a "site plot"?
Does there need to be an overarching conflict / theme of some kind? Does Myrtle Island need to be less "safe"? Was curious about everyone's thoughts. ^^

Interesting thought. While I think that an overarching story is in no way necessary, it is a nice touch in my opinion. If done right it is a great way of storytelling and can give the writers a sense of progress aside from the level-system etc. I am still debating if that means that Mystle Island has to be less "safe" because of that.
It all depends on the type of story that site plot would involve. I think the quests as they are now are a fantastic way to build the world and develope the characters as they are though. A site plot would require a bit more work from the admins as well, so that is something one should think about when deciding for or against that idea.
Overall I'd say it is not required at all especially not that early on. Maybe a bit more down the road. What I can suggest though are events, like festivals or stuff like that. Something different from the normal stuff.... but that does not have to be an overarching story.

I saw other sites do the Activity Check each month before deciding to make a site-wide seasonal event, so maybe do that?
I agreed though that it is not necessary, but it is good for the longevity of the RP site.

What if Myrtle Island had a "plot" like... recently the land was becoming less fertile, there are less fish... less food... more people are getting sick... there's a lot more bad luck... basically an atmosphere that gives a feeling of "something is wrong". I guess the plot would be something like the merfolk thinking of potentially moving elsewhere... but where can they go? I'm not sure that kind of plot is interesting enough though. Tbh, some of the sites I used to be on also had activity checks, but I never understood why they have them... Events are definitely I think would be cool! ^^ If anyone has ideas for events, I'd love to hear!
