In the real world, Ethan was rather short for his age. Only standing at 5'6 and weighing 146 lbs, he had a compact and athletic build from martial arts training. The teen had short silver hair that looks like it came straight out of the 90s and silver-grey eyes. His skin was a fair complexion with a light tan. Due to his soft skin and feminine appearance, he's often been mistaken for a girl. For clothing, he wore a white shirt, a pair of khaki pants, brown Army boots, and a pair of brown leather gloves. His eyes were replaced with cybernetic replacements after surviving a car crash that killed his elder sister. The area of his face has facial scarring that were covered by a mask he wore.
Ethan has a very different appearance in the world of Elder Tale. His avatar appears as a beautiful young elf woman with violet eyes. Her hair was colored raven black and reached down to the small of her back. Usually this was tied up as a ponytail. He also gave the avatar a voluptuous figure. As he's trapped in his avatar, the outfit he wears is a white and red kimono with a pair of katana sheathed by his side.
PERSONALITY:
Ethan used to be a socially withdrawn person before the Apocalypse. He generally avoided people whenever he could except for his family and his only friend. Despite this, the teen doesn't act cold and callous towards others. He'd still help others if they need it and would speak only when he was spoken too.
When he played Elder Tale and got involved in the Apocalypse, Ethan was able to grow out of his shell. He developed an outgoing socialite persona that wouldn't hesitate in interacting with other people. One thing to note is that giving up when things get tough is not in his blood. If he inherited anything from his parents, it would be his stubbornness and indomitable will to live.
HISTORY:
Ethan comes from an Earth not too dissimilar to our own. In this world, technology is reasonably advanced. They had cybernetics and full dive virtual reality tech was at its infancy, but still developing rapidly. In this world, there was a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game called Elder Tale. It's an extremely popular game with several hundred thousand players created by a US based company called Atharva, Inc. Despite the $65 dollar price tag and a $13 dollar monthly fee, it was well worth it. Like most MMOs of the time, it was a desktop based PC game. It had an extensive character customization kit, 8 playable races, and a slew of classes.
The teen was born into this world as the youngest son of Elias Hawkins and Elaine Hawkins. His father served in the United States Marine Corps while his mother was a professional racer for the Desert Storm racing team. He had an older sister who went into college and a younger brother who joined the US Army. During his early years, Ethan wasn't exactly the popular kid in school. The girls were jealous of his looks and he was singled out by the resident bullies. He probably would've dropped out despite his grades if not for Chloe Ward. She was the only one who went out of her way to make friends with him. He was originally suspicious of her motives, although he accepted the friendship in the end.
Ethan wasn't into games until Chloe showed him how to play Elder Tale. He mostly used the laptop he owned to study and his mother recently started training him in martial arts. Chloe gave Ethan a spare copy of the MMO and showed him the ropes. He made an account, created his first character in the North America server and was immediately sucked in. Now, whenever he wasn't training or studying, he would be playing Elder Tale. When Ethan was 12, he lost his mother in a robbery gone wrong. The armed man overpowered her and took her hostage, and when the cashier slowed down, the man shot her in the stomach. Ethan reacted and used his training to disarm him and kill him.
This took a toll on Ethan over the next few months. His dad had recently joined the CIA before the incident and took paid leave to reunite with his family and attend the funeral. Ethan went into therapy. You would think that's the end. It wasn't. 4 years later, the teen was with his sister and brother. She had graduated from college and joined a new robotics company called Tyrell Robotics. The three of them went to the movies and had dinner together. On the way home, they were attacked by a hit and run. A couple of gang cars were being chased by police and one of the gang members fired off a rocket launcher. It impacted with the kids' truck and killed the older siblings. Ethan alone survived.
While he did live, Ethan didn't get out of it unscathed. Glass shards slashed up his eyes and rendered him blind. The blunt force trauma put him in a coma for a month. The teen woke up a month later in the hospital ran by Tyrell Robotics with a pair of newly installed cybernetic eyes. His father recently left the CIA to take care of his only surviving kid and later on became a professional assassin. This meant the two had to move around a lot so Elias could do his work. Ethan's dad told him he was doing work as a security consultant for various tech companies around the world. During this, Ethan would stay in contact with his friend Chloe and play Elder Tale when he wasn't being trained in combat.
Eventually, Elias' job would take him repeatedly to Japan. During his jobs there he carried out a secret relationship with a Japanese woman called Noguchi Inaho, who was the daughter of the Noguchi Family head. When Ethan was 17, his dad revealed the relationship to him. He didn't trust the woman at first, but accepted it later on. If she made him happy, then he was fine with it. Once the new expansion pack came out, the teen logged into the Japanese server where he had a level 90 character called Tyrael who was a former member of the Debauchery Tea Party. He selected his elf girl and joined the game, unaware that he was going to be trapped there for a very long time.
After the Apocalypse, he made it a priority to reunite with the former members of the guild and found Soujiro Seta who had his West Wind Brigade guild. Instead of joining, he formed a mercenary contract before joining the Log Horizon guild. He then went on various adventures with them. After reaching level 95, the teen was attacked by a team of player bandits during a raining night. The fight was long and hard, but Ethan was able to beat most of them back. Everything was going well until he slipped and fell into a rather large puddle. Instead of hitting the hard ground underneath, Ethan slipped through and arrived in the world of Probos.
