TAKE ME TO VALHALLA WHERE MY BROTHERS WAIT FOR ME |
Ethan was able to get himself registered as an Adventurer with little hassle. Although he did have to explain to the sexy, dark elf receptionist who was confused about his predicament. Instead of telling her about the virtual world he came from, he instead opted to go with the magic explanation. That his mentor, an eccentric witch named Leah, used him as a test subject for an experimental spell that she was developing. It had an unprecedented side effect of turning him into a girl. The woman was trying to find a way to fix it before he ended up in Probos.
The woman had accepted the explanation and gave him what he needed. Ethan went over to the board to see what's up and saw the Basic Combat Training quest. He needed to find Sensei Gaiden's house and talk to the guy. Grabbing it off the board and turning it in, he thought, 'Couldn't hurt to review the basics. Wasn't really in a position where I could continue my martial arts lessons in the game.'
After asking for some directions, he made his way towards the home. The house in question looked more like a shack. There was a hammock swinging in the gentle breeze in between two coconut trees next to it. He got closer and saw a merman sitting cross legged as if he was meditating. Before he could go any farther, the man in front of him said, "What do you want?"
Ethan replied, "I'm here for the Combat Training Quest."
"Another otherworlder eh? You're certainly different from the last one I met."
The man stood up and said, "Come with me."
Ethan was then led to a small clearing behind the house. "Weapon of choice?" The teen thought about it and said, "I'll be using my fists."
The man said, "Ok then. First. A trial battle. On the count of three. One. Two. Three." He readied himself in a battle stance reminiscent of the martial artist teachers in the Shōnen battle anime he used to watch.
Ethan responded by shifting his right foot back a step and lifting both arms so they were level with his face. As Gaiden charged, Ethan attempted to swing his left arm as if to punch the Sensei, but pulled it back at the last second and swung his right leg to knock him onto his feet. Unfortunately, the teen had a nasty surprise waiting for him. He was much slower than he used to be and the teacher knocked him down to the ground.
THUMP.
Gaiden had Ethan in a choke hold and said, "Judging from that martial arts stance, I'm guessing you were trained by a good teacher but never really had the chance to use those skills in combat. Even then, that won't do you any good since the Reflecting Pool resets your body back to the level of an average civilian."
Ethan slapped the ground beside him and felt the arms that was slowly choking the life out of him release. The teen gasped in relief and coughed a couple of times. Thinking about what the teacher said, Ethan thought, 'So that's how it's going to be. No matter how much training I went through as a kid, it all went away when I came here. That won't stop me. I will not give up!'
The teacher knelt down next to him. "Look at it this way, young lady. All of you went through was in the best. Like I told the last Otherworlder who was here, you have the future ahead of you. If you can't think about that, think about honing your martial arts. Now get up. You have a quest to finish."
Ethan nodded. That speech of his helped. "I'm not planning on quitting on this day or any other, Sensei. You can count on that." The man grinned. "Now that's what I like to hear!" The teen stood up and pulled himself into the combat stance he was used to. It was going to be a long day.
