After being given a warm introduction by the folk at the adventurer's guild, including a hot-tempered fishman by the name of Zane, the patient yet playful elder Nanai, and the man who has seemingly been stationed at the shack for a long time, Lyndis was left to her own devices wandering around the village. She felt super out of place, knowing that this wasn't where she belonged. As she thought about the family she had left behind, tears slowly welled up in her eyes. There was no way back and there was no way she would ever see them again.
Angry at her misfortune, and frustrated at why she didn't just die after falling off that cliff, she kicked at some palm trees and rocks on the outskirts of the village. As she wandered closer and closer to the sea shore, subconsciously drawn to the beautiful dark blue colour of the ocean, she was suddenly greeted by a friendly voice calling out to her.
"Good afternoon lass, what's got you so riled up?"
Turning towards the source of the voice, Lyn saw an old mermaid swimming in the waters, her hands filled with pretty-looking shells and stones from the ocean floor.
"I'm just angry at how I didn't die and came here instead." Lyndis answered bluntly, as she picked up a seashell beneath her feet and offerred it to the old woman who seemingly enjoyed collecting this stuff.
"Now now, you should learn to think on the positive side of things. Rather than believing you 'didn't die', why not say that your 'life was saved'? Also, didn't you just arrive here today from the Reflecting Pool? You shouldn't judge this world so soon m'dear."
The old mermaid gave her thoughts patiently, somewhat reminding Lyndis of Elder Nanai back in the adventurer's guild. She also gratefully took the seashell from Lyn's hands with an amiable smile.
"That's harder to do than you think." Lyndis scoffed, as she continued helping the elderly with her collection along the seashore. She was raised in her tribe to always respect and help the elderly, as their wisdom, years and experiences extend far beyond one's own, hence she instinctively helped and respected this old mermaid.
As the pair conversed, Lyndis was somehow swept along by this old woman back to her cove, chatting to her about her old world, this village and other random stuff.
"Oh my, you must be starving dear, come, let me whip you up something nice, what foods do you like?" Grandma Nah suddenly offerred as she realized the sun was setting over the horizon.
Lyndis vaguely felt she was overstaying her visit, but her hunger won out as she thought eagerly about what to eat. "I like meat, lots of meat." She drooled as she thought about her favourite prey back home.
Before she knew it, many different dishes of fish and meaty seafood was laid out before her, which she devoured ravenously. Grandma Nah was amused by how the little harpy ate, seeing as she had no hands and could only peck at her meal.
The pair ate harmoniously, before Grandma Nah shoved a piece of paper into hands with a wink and waved her new harpy friend goodbye. Confused at what this paper was for, and why she was told to deliver it to the shabby hut on the edge of the village, Lyndis simply did as she was told before retiring for the evening.
