✴The Chain Sickle✴
~Lyndis Valcove - Q3~
As Lyndis gradually began adapting to her new life here, she quickly began noticing the new changes in her body.
Not only had she lost the physical strength, reaction time and speed of a true huntress of her tribe, she felt she had lost the knowledge of how to fight or hunt properly.
Her wing had fortunately healed by now, rendering her able to fly again, but that only slightly alleviated the vulnerability and weakness she was feeling.
Therefore, she set out for a quest that would helpfully help with this problem. Training.
---
Sensei Gaiden was a strict and gruff merman with a bald head, who looked her over scrutinizingly.
"What did you say you were? A harpy? Well, anyway, what do you want?"
"I would like to request some basic combat training since I seem to have lost all my abilities since coming here." Lyn explained plainly.
"Ah, well, that sounds about right, all the adventurers before you have been through the same thing. Anyway, I'm no expert, but finding a weapon for someone with no hands might be a bit tricky." He scratched his chin thoughtfully, pondering for a while.
Lyn was about to say that she wasn't actually looking for a weapon, just combat training, but she didn't get a chance before he suddenly spoke again.
"Oh, actually I have an old chain sickle that you may be able to use, give me a moment." A lightbulb seemed to flash above his head as he quickly went back inside, and brought back a rusty chain weapon with a scythe-like blade attached to it's end.
"Here, try wielding this with your talons." He spoke excitedly, pleased that he hadn't thrown out this old weapon ages ago.
Doing as he says, Lyn gripped the end of the strange weapon carefully and curiously, before entering the air. Keeping a distance from the bald man, she swung the chained blade around and practiced wielding it.
"I think a weapon like this would be well-suited for you actually." He evaluated as he watched her movements, and critiqued her.
"You are quite small, and mainly fight with your talons, judging by the way you move. This chain can be used as a ranged weapon of yours, as well as to restrict enemies that are bigger and stronger than you due to your limiting stature." He explained his thoughts, as he began training her, throwing rocks for her to dodge whilst she attempted to strike him with the chain.
Excited and amazed by his insight, Lyndis beamed at the merman, thinking that her journey to Probos might not be so bad afterall. "Thank you Sensei, I look forward to being your student!"
He smiled calmly back. "As do I."
