It turned out that the merfolk gangsters partake in the illegal blobling trade. Given that Kaine witnessed something that she wasn't supposed to see, Kaine was abducted(?) and not allowed to go home. Kaine stuffed an SOS note and her quest report in an octopus-shaped blobling and threw it overboard... hoping that someone might come across it. Finished the Quest!
Summary: He took part in the quest and never took even a look into the crates. He found the note from Kaine though and brought that to the receptionist in the adventuerer's guild without saying a word.
